Title

Previous Discussion Update

Body

The following items were discussed during the February 20, 2024, Utilities Commission Meeting. Staff was asked to return to the Commission with more information on the following items at a future meeting.

1.                     Rialto Fire Department Ambulance Membership Program

The Ambulance Membership Program costs $5 per month per household. It covers household dependents to receive emergency paramedic ambulance transportation within the city of Rialto at no additional cost from Rialto Fire Paramedics. Revenue collected from this program helps to offset operating program costs.

2.                     Rialto Collaboration with Rain Bird

Following the presentation to the Utilities Commission on February 20, 2024, Rain Bird consultant, Dave Giddens, met with the Rialto Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department on March 12, 2024, regarding the use of Rain Bird products at city parks. Per Mr. Giddens, efforts are being made to secure grant funds to assist in financing comprehensive upgrades. Funding is needed for the integration of the IQ4 central controller, master valves, and flow sensors-components not presently installed. Additionally, the initiative will include the transition to pressure-regulating and check valves integrated into the spray heads and rotors, as well as the installation of new, more efficient spray nozzles, among other improvements.

3.                     Rain Bird Cybersecurity Protection

Rain Bird’s IQ4 controller security protocols include:

End-to-end encryption of all transmitted data.

Password strength requirements and password reset rules.

iCloud storage of all irrigation settings thereby correcting damage to the physical irrigation controller by re-sending irrigation settings to a replacement controller.

Configuration report export capability and restoration features that further aid in protecting from potential data loss.
