Monthly Activity Report for City of Rialto Waste Management Services

(RECEIVE AND FILE)

BACKGROUND:

The City of Rialto Municipal Code Chapter 2.24 establishes and defines the Rialto Utilities Commission.  The responsibilities assigned to the Commission include acting “as an advisor to the City Council and City Administration regarding solid waste policies, recycling, source reduction, and other related state mandates.”  This report provides general information to the Commission on the activities and events for the Public Works Department’s Waste Management Division.

 

ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:

Items relating to the City’s Solid Waste Management services and of interest to the

Commission are as follows:

 

                     Hazardous Household Waste -

 

During the month of June:

 

o                     260 residents served

o                     305 gallons of used motor oil,

o                     4 pallets of paint,

o                     12 drums of miscellaneous poisons and other toxic liquids,

o                     12 barrels of sharps, including needles, lancets, and syringes used by residents for their home healthcare and medical needs.

 

During the month of July:

 

o                     399 residents served

o                     390 gallons of used motor oil,

o                     17 pallets of paint,

o                     13 drums of miscellaneous poisons and other toxic liquids,

o                     10 barrels of sharps, including needles, lancets, and syringes used by residents for their home healthcare and medical needs.

 

During the month of August, the Household Hazardous Waste site was open on 9th and 10th and will be open again on June 23rd and 24th from 8 am until 12 noon.

 

Community Clean-up Day - July 13, 2019

 

Activities Included:

 

                     Used Tire Collection - 565 tires

                     Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off

                     Electronic Waste Drop-off - 20,159 pounds recycled

                     Personal Document Shredding - 11,980 lbs.

                     Salvation Army Donation Drop-off

                     Special Collection - Rialto Animal Control - pick-up truck load

                     

                     Burrtec Waste Tonnage Report - The report for April and May of 2019 is attached to this report for your review.

 

The following documents were not available when the reports were prepared and will be presented on the night of the Utilities Commission Meeting.

                     Burrtec Scavenging Report - July 2019

                     Rialto Code Enforcement Scavenging Report - July 2019

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends the Utilities Commission receive this report for the month of August 2019.
