TO:                                           Honorable Economic Development Committee Members

FROM:                     Tanya Williams, Assistant City Manager

Title

Request that the Economic Development Sub-Committee Provide Feedback on Priority Projects for Community Project Funding for Federal Appropriations

Body

BACKGROUND

The federal discretionary appropriations process is designed to allow jurisdictions an opportunity to submit community project funding requests directly to their congressional representatives.

The City works with its federal lobbyist, David Turch & Associates to identify and prioritize city projects that fall under different appropriation bills to maximize the potential for congressional funding.

ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION

In December, members of the City Council met with Jamie Jones with David Turch & Associates to collect feedback on potential projects. The potential list of projects to consider as priority projects include:

Fire Station 203 Training Area Rehabilitation and Upgrades

                     Rialto Depot Station Museum Project

Rialto Police Station Technology & Safety Equipment

                     Cactus Basin Recreation Trail

This is a preliminary list of projects. With feedback and recommendations provided by the EDC, a full list of projects will be brought forward to the City Council for approval and submission through the federal appropriations process with support from our federal lobbyist.
