BACKGROUND
The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) has awarded the City of Rialto Police Department $375,000 through the Selected Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Grant.

For the past several years, the City has pursued and been awarded various grants from OTS to help augment its traffic safety efforts. In recent years, the City Council has dedicated increased funding for staffing to support the Department's efforts in improving the safety of the motoring public. Similarly, OTS has increased their grant funding; from $234,000 in 2022 to $375,000 in 2023. The increased grant funding will further the Department's ability to achieve established traffic safety goals.

ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION
The OTS grant allocates funding to address traffic-related concerns through the following enforcement and educational programs:

* DUI/Driver License Checkpoints
* DUI Saturation Patrols
* "Know Your Limit" Education
* Collaborative DUI and Traffic Enforcement
* Traffic Enforcement
* Distracted Driving Enforcement
* Motorcycle Safety
* "Click It or Ticket" Enforcement
* Pedestrian and Bicycle Enforcement
* Traffic Safety Education
* Street Racing Enforcement

There are no matching funds required for this grant. If this grant is accepted, the City will be reimbursed for all grant-related law enforcement overtime activities, training, approved project supplies and services during the grant operational period of October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2023.
