Request City Council to Confirm the Mayor’s Appointments of Council Members to Internal and External Committees.

BACKGROUND:

In accordance with California Government Code Section 40605, the Mayor appoints Council Members to serve on internal committees and the appointments are confirmed by the City Council.

 

ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:

Historically, the Mayor interviews various Council Members to determine their interest in serving on various committees. The Mayor prepares a memorandum to the Council Members and makes recommendations for committee appointments. The City Council confirms the Mayor’s appointments.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:

The proposed action is not defined as a “project” within the meaning of Section 15378 of the California Environmental Quality Act Guidelines. The proposed action is a fiscal, administrative and organizational activity of a governmental entity and will not result in a potentially significant environmental impact.

 

GENERAL PLAN CONSISTENCY:

This action is consistent with Guiding Principle 3A in the General Plan:

 

Our City government will lead by example, and will operate in an open, transparent, and responsive manner that meets the needs of the citizens and is a good place to do business.

 

LEGAL REVIEW:

The City Attorney has reviewed and approved the staff report.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

These assignments will have no financial impact.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends that the City Council confirm the Mayor’s appointments of Council Members to internal and external Committees. The City Clerk will send out reorganization notification letters to state, county and cities.
