Request City Council to Authorize the Release of Request for Bids No. 19-134 for the Bud Bender Ball Field Netting Project, City Project No CB1902.

BACKGROUND:
Bud Bender Park is a nine-acre park located at 235 N. Lilac Avenue. The park provides playgrounds, baseball and softball facilities. Recent improvements to the park have included installation of Musco field lighting and a Monument sign. On May 8, 2018, City Council approved funding through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program for the Bud Bender Park Ball Field Fence Project.
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:
To improve the safety of players and spectators, this project extends the protective netting from the current terminus to the foul poles an additional 10 feet in height. The project also extends the safety netting from the new chain link fence to the concession stand area along the first base line and provides for safety netting in front of the scoreboard located in the field. The installation of nettings will protect the concession stand customers, as well as the scoreboard from any potential incoming hazards. The project benefits the community and our baseball program by providing a safer environment.
Staff has coordinated the preparation of final plans and specifications for the Project, and the Project is ready to be advertised for bidding. With the City Council's approval, staff will advertise the project in the San Bernardino County Sun, submit the request for bids to plan rooms and make the contract documents available on Planet Bids. RFB No. 19-134 identifies the following schedule for the bid process:
