The intersection of Ayala Drive and Fitzgerald Avenue currently operates as a non-signalized intersection. The four (4) roadways approaching the intersection curve to the right before reaching the intersection. The goal of the Ayala Drive and Fitzgerald Avenue Traffic Signal Project is to install traffic signalization and street lighting improvements to increase safety of pedestrians and motorists travelling through the area. The final design was verified to be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), providing pedestrian access and connectivity to and from the Renaissance Marketplace shopping center, Jerry Eaves Park, the 210 Freeway and adjacent areas.

On August 11, 2020, the City adopted the Fiscal Year 2020/2021 Budget and Capital Improvement Project List which included the Fitzgerald Avenue Traffic Signal and Lighting Improvement Project, City Project No. 190810 (the "Project").

On February 22, 2022, the City Council approved the plans and authorized bidding of the Project.
